How to Play Five Card Stud
Five card stud is similar to Seven card stud, just with fewer cards. This game is not often played in casinos these days. It is simple to learn and play.
- Dealing: Each player is dealt two cards, one face down and one face up.
- Call, raise or Fold: The first betting round begins, starting with the player with the highest open card, who chooses to call, raise the bet or fold his hand.
- Third Street: A third card is dealt face up to each player. This is followed by a low limit betting round.
- Fourth Street: A fourth card is dealt face up to each player. This is followed by a high limit betting round.
- Fifth Street: A fifth card is dealt face up to each player. In some versions, this card can be dealt face down, to create more suspense. This is followed by a high limit betting round.
- Showdown: Players reveal their hole card(s) and the best ranked hand wins the pot.
- Rankings: The highest ranked hand is a Royal Flush, 10-J-Q-K-A of the same suit. The lowest ranked hand is High card – eg. Ace high where Ace is the highest card in the hand, and there are no other rankings.
